The Bina Harbour Development Project aims to transform Bina Harbour, located 25 km south of Auki in Malaita Province, into a world‑class tuna processing facility. The establishment of a processing plant represents a significant step forward for the Solomon Islands in capturing greater value from its extensive tuna resources and strengthening long‑term economic development. To support this project a reliable and clean water source is required to deliver enough water to meet both immediate and long-term demand.
To support the project, Fluvio has been engaged to collect 12 months of continuous hydrological data to identify a reliable and sustainable water source for the processing plant’s immediate and future operational needs. Monitoring has been undertaken at two sites identified from previous studies and at an additional site proposed by local landowners. This work has utilised computer‑vision stream‑gauging systems, real‑time water‑quality monitoring stations, and manual gauging, supported by communication and monitoring solutions developed to operate effectively in remote and extreme locations delivering data at five‑minute intervals.
